On Wednesday, August 27, Futures High School’s girls flag football team faced off against Mesa Verde. Although they are off to a rough start this season with two losses, the team showed some improvement in this week’s game. The final score was 6-26, with Futures falling short.
The roster included: Lyla Maravilla (freshman), Hetsy Ramirez (freshman), Priscilla Lopez (freshman), Alayah Wiltz (junior), Jaida Brown (sophomore), Jade Nash (senior), Anaya Coney (freshman), Katana Garcia (freshman), Marie Bradd (junior), Claudia Monteiro (freshman), Syrae Farani (junior), Nevaeh Vasquez (junior), and head coach Anni Russo.
While the team made some impressive plays, it wasn’t enough to secure a win. The team still needs to put in more work if they hope to earn a victory this season.
Leading player stats: Valeria Hernandez-Jimenez had 4.0 receiving yards; Syrae Farani led with 30.0 rushing yards, followed by Lyla Maravilla with 6.0 and Alayah Wiltz with 1.0 rushing yards.
Their next game is scheduled for August 30, Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against Foothill High School.
